Western Research Company, Inc. is recipient of melanoma cancer research grant
Tucson, Az - August, 2004 - Western Research Company, Inc. (Tucson, Az) has received a Phase I grant from the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health  to develop an imaging software product to allow individuals to screen for new or changing moles at home. The software will be designed to take advantage of the increased use and capabilities of digital cameras.

Monitoring skin moles for growth or change is an important task for people at risk for melanoma. However, traditional body photography is expensive and difficult to gain access to. The ability to perform screening at home using a common digital camera is expected to significantly increase the access that people have to this type of close monitoring and is expected to help counteract the increasing rate of melanoma in the United States.
