HemeAlert Technology Patent is Allowed.
Tucson, Az - September 1, 2004 - Western Research Company, Inc. (Tucson, Az) announces that a patent application for the HemeAlert technology has been allowed. The HemeAlert technology is the basis of a new noninvasive stool test that can determine the source of blood in the stool. This determination is the first challenge faced by physicians when then have a patient with gastrointestinal bleeding.

Currently, the discovery of blood in the stool usually leads to a rather expensive evaluation that usually includes a colonoscopy. However, the majority of those procedures are not needed since bleeding usually occurs from an upper GI bleeding site. The goal of the HemeAlert test is to quickly and economically identify those patients that do not require a colonoscopy examination.
