HemeAlert Technology Patent is Issued.
Tucson, Az - February 18, 2005 - Western Research Company, Inc. (Tucson, Az) announces that a patent has issued for technology employed in the HemeAlert diagnostic test developed by the company. The HemeAlert technology is the basis of a new noninvasive stool test that can determine the source of blood in the stool.

Currently, the discovery of blood in the stool usually leads to a rather expensive evaluation that usually includes a colonoscopy. However, the majority of those procedures are not needed since bleeding usually occurs from an upper GI bleeding site. The goal of the HemeAlert test is to quickly and economically identify those patients that do not require a colonoscopy examination.
